YMCA Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP)

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

DO YOU HAVE A PRODUCT OR SERVICE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SELL BUT AREN'T SURE WHERE TO BEGIN?

ARE YOU A BUSINESS OWNER/PROFESSIONAL LOOKING TO OFFER MENTORSHIP, COACHING OR A PLACE FOR YOUTH TO SELL THEIR PRODUCTS?

The Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) provides youth between the ages of 14-29 with a business incubator that will build awareness of entrepreneurship as a viable career opportunity for at-risk youth with an aspiring business idea and product to sell.

Providing youth with 13 weeks of hands on learning, youth will receive valuable coaching, mentoring and professional training on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship in order to prepare them for the real-life experience of running their own business at various “marketplaces” within the community.

If you are a youth seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity to run your own business and learn new entrepreneurial skills, or a business owner interested in sharing your own entrepreneurial experiences with at-risk youth, please contact Amanda Tepei, Youth Outreach Worker, at YMCA Youth Services 705-796-1198 or email amanda_tepei@ymca.ca for more information.

Participant and Mentor Benefits:

  • YEP staff will provide on-going support to participants throughout the incubator process and during their time in marketplaces.
  • Youth will learn the benefits of networking in the community and develop positive relationships with potential customers and business owners.
  • Local business will be able to showcase local new talents and products while helping out the youth in their community.
  • Youth will develop a greater appreciation for business management and the hard work and dedication it takes to grow a business.
  • Youth will learn entrepreneurship skills and business management skills through hands-on learning.
  • Business owners will be able to share their own experiences knowing that their mentorship and support will help a youth realize their entrepreneurial dreams!
