Women in Business Finalists - Heart & Soul Category

For the woman in business who is putting her heart and soul into our community; she is volunteering, donating, and lending a helping hand, all the while encouraging others to do the same. She is the first to step forward when a charity or non-profit needs something, and is often the last to step away from the efforts. As an owner or manager, she is leading her team in supporting our community and those who need assistance.

Teena Sauve, Botree Inc.

2020 marks the 10th year for www.weunite.ca, the 500-member strong non-profit Teena founded. This women-led organization has directed over $100k to registered charities and supported individuals in need through a variety of activities like their Annual Run, soup-making, lantern deliveries, “Cooking for a Cause”, catering, and more. In addition to giving her own personal time, Teena has created a culture of giving in her business by allowing her employees to spend a portion of their workday donating their time, expertise, or resources to causes close to their heart without judgement of time deducted from pay.

Joanna Shaw, JMS Law

Connecting to people is clearly a priority for Joanna, as supports her community by giving her time in a very personal, hands-on way. As a volunteer, she sees a need and fills it, helping people of all ages in their time of need. From teaching Yoga to seniors & children; mediating between parents in high conflict matters; feeding the hungry; serving on boards; advocating; coordinating a Christmas Day event for people who are alone at Christmas; and fundraising, Joanna is a very effective volunteer, putting her wide range of skills to good use.

Shelly Skinner, Shelly Skinner Events, Event Management and Consulting

Dedication to the cause – whichever cause or organization Shelly is volunteering with, she's 110 percent dedicated and it shows in everything she does. This passion is reflected in the quality and quantity of collaborations, partnerships and sponsorships she attracts to any organization she volunteers with. She also uses her public stage to help build character in local business by promoting positive community partners and community events. Shelly embodies the community values that connect us as people, bring us closer together and encourage us to support each other.
