Business Involvement – International Business Plan Project Winter Session

International Business Management Program

Have you ever considered expanding your business into an international market? Today we are offering you the opportunity to investigate selling your product to an international market (excluding the USA) by working with a student of International Business Management program at Georgian College.

The International Business Management Program at Georgian College is a graduate certificate program offering students the opportunity to study international business practices and work towards accreditation as a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP). As a college program we try to ensure a balance of academic instruction and practical experience and partnerships with the business community are an essential element to our success.

What We Offer:

  • A student or group of students will be dedicated to work on your opportunity.
  • A business plan to take a product to a new market. Although we endeavour to deliver a complete plan this is a student project and as such there are some limitations to the final product.
  • An opportunity to network with other business leaders and Georgian College at our Industry Night.
  • The opportunity to source a student for an internship with your business or perhaps a future employee who can help with your international business efforts.

What We Request:

  • Local businesses with an established product offered in the domestic market.
  • A willingness to provide time and information to a student consultant to allow the preparation of a business plan for taking a product to a foreign market (excluding to the USA).
  • Time commitment requested is:
    • Initial meeting to collect information mid January or early Feb (in person or teleconference).
    • Interim meeting/communication to deliver the proposal
    • Follow up communications with respect to information requests by the student consultant
    • Attendance at Industry Night, Feb 23, 2012
    • Final plan presentation in April.
  • Information to be requested:
  • Product
    • Product description (including physical elements such as size, weight, is it fragile, durable or perishable etc)
    • Product costing (cost to produce and/or acquire your product)
    • Domestic marketing strategies ( direct sale, distributors, online, etc)
    • Unique selling proposition for the product.
  • Operations
    • Do you have capacity to produce additional product; or will investment need to be made to expand production (if the latter, do you have an approximate cost)
    • An organizational chart for the business indicating key staff and any staff already involved in international trade.
    • Information on any existing international business currently being undertaken; annual sales, gross profit margin, key suppliers (ie freight forwarders, customs brokers etc)

The Ideal Business Partner

  • Currently selling a product in Canada that may be exported to a foreign market.
  • Preferably the product is manufactured by or for the business
  • Prepared to share information on production costs and production capacity. Essential information to prepare forecasts for the proposed business (ie. income forecasts and capital investments).
