A Message From MaryLynn West-Moynes, President and CEO, Georgian College

Thursday, July 18, 2013

As a community leader and friend of Georgian College, I want to share with you exciting news and to ask for your help. Georgian is beginning an extensive search for a newly created position of Executive Director of The Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre. We are seeking an exceptional individual for this critical role and would welcome your recommendation if you know someone with the right combination of skills and experience to fill this position.

Georgian’s entrepreneurial focus came to life in 2011 with a generous $1.5 million donation from Mr. Bernick, a developer with deep roots in our region. Thanks to his gift and vision, we launched the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre and began our partnership with the U.S.-based Kaufman Foundation, the world’s most renowned experts in entrepreneurship education. Today, Georgian offers academic programs focused on entrepreneurship and is infusing the principles of entrepreneurship and innovation into all programs.

We know there is still much more to do. Georgian College’s Strategic Plan - “Focus 2015” – sets several priorities, including extraordinary student experiences and strengthened community connections. Extensive community consultations have underscored the need to expand entrepreneurial programs and services across all our campuses in Barrie, Midland, Muskoka, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound, and South Georgian Bay. The successful candidate for this new position will be responsible for expanding the reach and impact of the centre. Ultimately, under this leadership, The Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre will deliver an extraordinary entrepreneurship experience to students and community members across all campuses, and will position Georgian as a recognized Canadian leader in entrepreneurship education.

To assist in the search for this founding Executive Director, the college has secured the services of one of Canada’s leading public sector executive search firms, Janet Wright and Associates (JWA). I am especially pleased to report that Brian Tamblyn, President Emeritus of Georgian College, who is an Associate Search Consultant with JWA, has agreed to be the lead consultant on this search. Brian was closely involved in the establishment of the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre as President and CEO of Georgian, and accordingly brings a wealth of knowledge and contacts to this search.

To fill this critical leadership position, we are looking for an individual with entrepreneurial experience and knowledge. While the position itself is not directly academic in nature the candidate must have a passion for helping both students and communities to succeed. A Position Profile is attached, and I encourage you to share it widely with your business contacts and friends. Please feel free to contact Brian directly through the e-mail address, georgianexecdir@jwasearch.com.

Thank you for considering this request, and for your ongoing support of Georgian and our students. I look forward to announcing our new founding Executive Director for the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre in the near future.

Sincerely,
