Join the conversation and discuss the future of health and housing in our community as Barrie CARP hosts the 1st Health & Home Conference & Trade Show June 7th at the Army, Navy Air Force Club at 7 George St. in Barrie.

Come and learn more about the ZOOMERLIFE 2013 healthcare roundtable debate hosted by Libby Znaimer, with panel members Andre Picard, The Globe and Mail’s health columnist, Susan Eng, Vice President for CARP, Dr. Louis Francescutti and President & CEO of Shoppers Drug Mart Dominic Pilla as they talk about healthcare today and into the future; what it looks like and what to expect as our changing demographics force us to look at alternatives and options.

Join Ann Marie Kungl-Baker as she moderates a lively panel discussion with a caregiver, nurse practitioner from the Aging Care clinic, the director of client services for Community Care Access Centre and the vice president of transitions, diagnostics at Royal Victoria Hospital. Our panel members will discuss what you need to need know about the importance of advance care planning; what our health care may look like in the future and the challenges we are facing today.

Shelley Raymond, President/Founder of Solterra Co-housing will give you an overview of “shared homeownership” and the success she had with this concept for her loved ones. Her dad was able to maintain his dignity and self-esteem as well as decrease the isolation he was facing when his wife moved to an institutional retirement home. Clustering together and sharing-a-home, the expenses and homemaking services with other “like seniors” improves individual emotional well-being thereby helping all seniors to live with dignity, stability and safety while still “ageing at home” and maintaining an equity position in real property. And most importantly everyone lives for LESS!

Christy Skelly, Certified Aging In Place Specialist will outline the simple changes that can be made to your home to help you live in it as you age. Ross Cotton, planner for the City of Barrie, will discuss senior housing options including the various types and projects planned for the future needs for the growing seniors population here in Barrie.  Our forum wraps up with our “Peoples Choice Award” and “Best Student Project Award” with four students from the Architectural Technology program at Georgian College who will present their ideas and drawings for the future of accessible and automated housing for seniors.

Get involved; find out more and be sure to attend the Health & Home Conference from 11 am to 5 pm, tickets are $15.00 includes your lunch.
