This first release of data from the 2011 Census marks the start of Canada’s new statistical portrait. The new data tell us how many people live in Canada and the places where we live.
Data are available at all geographical levels. Whether you want to know the population and dwelling count for all of Canada or a city block, the census has the data you’re looking for. To find out about the number of people and dwellings in your community, please visit

and follow the appropriate links.
Other Census of Population data will be released on the following dates:
- May 29, 2012 – age and sex
- September 19, 2012 – families, households and marital status; structural type of dwelling and collectives
- October 24, 2012 – language.
